Splash Mountain to be re-themed

Disney have today announced that their Splash   Mountain rides both in Disneyland and Disney World are to be reimagined to the Princess and the Frog.

This comes after that massive petition that has been going around calling for the controversial ride, based on Song of the south, to be reimagined. The film has been criticised for many years with Disney themselves pulling the film from distribution, not even featuring it on Disney+. The change.com petition currently holds north of 20,000 signatures. The idea being to replace the “out dated links to Song of the South” from the ride, with Princess and the Frog because of It’s stronger portrayal of African Americans. The black lives matters moment have reopened the conversations of normalizing equality, Disney are taking a massive stand in that direction.

Disney said “The new Splash Mountain concept is “inclusive” and “one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by.”
“It speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year,”

“Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important,” Disney said on Thursday. “It’s a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou.”

The story of the new ride will pick up after the final kiss and follow Tiana, the Prince and a host of characters as they prepare of Mardis Gras. There is no time scale for the redevelopment but initial conceptual stages ate well under way.
